Level 5 EPC assessment

In readiness to sign off EPCs that have been created using Tas it is necessary to become a Level 5 EPC assessor.  Details of the entire process can be found following this link:

Below is a list of the training and assessment that must be done through EDSL in order to be entitled to continue through the EPC assessor process.

1)      The 3 day Building Designer Training Course. You do not have to attend this course if you have already done so.

2)      The 2 day Part L2/EPC training course. If you have already attended the 1 day Part L2 course or are a Low Carbon Consultant (simulation with Tas), then you are required to attend the 1 day EPC training course instead.

3)      If you want to become a Low Carbon Consultant (simulation with Tas) as well as a Level 5 EPC assessor, see the section below.

4)      The final stage for becoming a Level 5 EPC assessor is similar to the final stage of becoming a Low Carbon Consultant except that you send in an EPC project instead of a Part L2 project.

Those who have completed both the 3 day Tas Building Designer course and Part L2 course may complete the final stage in the path to becoming a Low Carbon Consultant (simulation). This requires the applicant to do the following:

1)      In the Tas Manager, set the current project directory to the directory containing the project you wish to submit.

2)      Open the “Plant simulation and sizing” macro and run the Part L2 calculation using version 9.0.9e or above.

3)      In the “Project details” dialog box of the “Plant simulation and sizing” macro, click on the “Clear stored zone data” button.

4)      Close the macro.

5)      Create a zip file containing all files (except TSD files) and subfolders in your current project directory.

6)      Create a written statement on headed paper which states that this submission is the applicant’s own work. This statement must be signed by the applicant and by a director or partner from the company the applicant works for.

7)      Create a purchase order for “LCC Part L2 assessment”. The cost of the assessment is £250 (excluding VAT).

8)      Send the purchase order, the zip file containing your project, the associated Part L2 compliance report and the written submission that this is the applicant’ work to our Consultancy Services Manager, Paul Bacon. The email address is lcc@edsl.net and the fax number is 01908 566553.

Applicants will be advised on any aspect of the work that may need bringing up to standard. When the quality of work is to the required standard the applicant will be issued a certificate to this effect, which they may submit to CIBSE with their application to be placed on the LCC (simulation) register. If there needs to be significant changes to the work to bring it up to standard then the project will have to be re-submitted. Re-submitting projects will be charged at the original assessment rate.
