Here to download a study of the effectiveness of displacement
ventilation in providing a comfortable internal environment during
summer. (481Kb)

The model of the building
concentrates on the southern end taking in two main office areas either
side of an office. This allows the detailed analysis of the interaction
of all the spaces and sub-volumes in terms of radiation and air
exchange. The southern end represents the worst case for solar impact.
All similar spaces in the remainder of the building will perform at
least as well as those modelled. |
Section through the southern
third of the main building showing micro-climate generated by displacement
ventilation

Resultant temperature is a
combination of radiant and air temperature and air velocity. It is a
measure of thermal comfort. Almost all of the occupied levels are at or
below 26oC
Model floor arrangements
The ground, first and second
floors are each divided into three layers. The lowest layer represents the
floor voids (0.5m), the second layer the occupied zone (1.45m) and the
third layer the high level zone representing the top 2.0m of the
office space volume. |
