Facade Design, Natural Ventilation and Mixed Mode

Back Up Next

A study of the impact on comfort and energy use of façade design, natural ventilation and mixed mode operation.

A model of the proposed building is created in 3D Tas from architectural drawings.

Internal gains for the office are assigned and an appropriate weather file is selected for the location of the proposed building. An air temperature frequency distribution is plotted along with a wind rose using the data from the weather file.

The geometry of the model building is exported into Lightscape and daylighting simulations are conducted.

Annual Carbon Emissions for Proposed Building compared to ECON19 Good Practice

The system strategy and operating schedules are specified. Full air conditioning and mixed mode seasonal performance are compared.

A micro climate study is undertaken using Ambiens for natural ventilation and fan-coil cooling regimes.

Part L2 Carbon Emission compliance is demonstrated. The proposed building also shows a performance better than ECON 19 good practice.

Summer time performance with natural ventilation only and the effect of changing the weather file location (moving inland) are analysed.
