Typical bureau work includes:
- Part L2/EPC Analysis.
- Testing buildings for summer overheating.
- Calculation of peak heating/cooling loads.
- Atrium winter/summer performance, avoiding cold down draughts, solar shading, natural ventilation, and spot cooling.
- Office design for natural ventilation and mixed mode operation.
- New cooling options like displacement ventilation, chilled beams, chilled ceilings etc.
- Comparing different HVAC systems’ energy demand.
- Façade design and solar shading, ventilated and unventilated double facades.
- Identifying causes of discomfort or excessive energy use in existing buildings and evaluating option for remedial action.
- Innovative systems for control of special climatic conditions.

EDSL were the first company to be accredited for Level 5 energy assessments. We have both the
experience and the software necessary to efficiently complete EPCs at a highly competitive cost.
Tas was the first DSM to be approved for L2 calculations, and the consultancy department is
experienced in modelling a wide range of building types and systems. Tas is also accredited for
Section 6 of Scottish Building Regulations.
In-house expertise and software can be used when undertaking a wide range of design evaluation studies.
Tas is capable of simulating very large buildings such as hospitals quickly and accurately. Our
consultancy department is experienced in handling the challenges posed by such projects.
The EDSL consultancy department is experienced in analysing schools for summertime overheating
compliance with Building Bulletin 101, as well as running overheating calculations on other building
types.
